MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Belarusian information centers should be opened in every federal district of Russia, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Alexander Torshin told media on 15 February.
“Today we have discussed an issue related to the lack of information about Belarus available in the Russian districts. They do not know how the Belarusian industry works, how it is developed. I think that information centers about Belarus should be set up in every deferal district of Russia at first, we have eight of them,” Alexander Torshin said.
He said that Russia is interested in developing bilateral relations with Belarus for a variety of reasons. “This is not only about joint production of some goods or services, but also about the development of advanced technologies. In many industries Belarus is much more efficient than the Russian Federation. Farm practices in Belarus are much better, we have to admit this. Climatic zones are in general similar, but the efficiency of agriculture in certain regions of Russia is lower,” said the First Vice Speaker of the Federation Council. He added that Belarus also boasts good traditions and achievements in engineering and construction. A whole range of Belarusian products are in demand in Russia.
“Now, when we joined the WTO, competition should be complemented by cooperation. Cooperation is also a kind of competition. Cooperation will help us withstand competition,” said Alexander Torshin. He informed that the next meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on inter-regional cooperation has been scheduled for the end of September and will take place in Nizhny Novgorod.
