Slovak ambassador praises Belarus’ systematic approach to agriculture

BARANOVICHI DISTRICT, 5 September (BelTA) – European countries could learn a lot from the Belarusian agricultural experience, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas told the media during the Dazhynki harvest festival of Brest Oblast on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

“The government, the regions, and the president maintain a firm stance that agriculture is a cornerstone of Belarus’ economy. It clearly shows, and a systematic approach is evident. Following the 1990s, our country went through a rather hasty and poorly planned privatization. That was a mistake. We should have maintained both state-owned and private enterprises with diverse structures. However, what we truly needed to preserve above all else was the education: vocational colleges and higher education institutions,” the diplomat emphasized.

This year, Baranovichi District is hosting Brest Oblast’s Dazhynki celebrations. In preparation for the festival, extensive infrastructure upgrades were carried out in the agro-town of Zhemchuzhny and the village of Novaya Mysh. In particular, the renovations for the harvest festival covered the laboratories and workshops of the Novaya Mysh State Agricultural College. “I saw that young people can study using modern equipment. The machinery is of the highest quality. To achieve effective results in agriculture, you always need to have everything modern and maintain the highest standards,” Jozef Migas said.

The Slovak ambassador emphasized that European countries could learn a great deal from the Belarusian approach. “We must not assume that we in the European Union are the ultimate best and that everything is flawless on our end. We need to learn from Belarus as well. That is my firm personal belief. Belarus is moving forward. It has adapted to alternative technologies. Supply chains are efficient, regular, and offer good prices. This is how everything should be utilized,” he concluded.
