MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Maintaining and expanding trade and economic relations with Ukraine is in the interests of Belarus, Vladimir Senko, Chairman of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, said as he visited the General Staff Faculty of the Military Academy of Belarus on 20 May, BelTA has learnt.
Vladimir Senko noted that Belarus’ position on the Ukraine crisis was clearly conveyed by the Belarusian head of state during his State of the Nation Address.
“It is very important that the head of state said that Belarus will cooperate with Ukraine regardless of what kind of government they have there. We are very interested in promoting trade and economic cooperation with this country. We have been building up the bilateral relations for centuries and we cannot draw a line between our countries and separate ourselves from Ukraine. Maintaining and expanding trade and economic relations with Ukraine serves the national interests of Belarus,” he said.
The Senator added that Belarus would like the situation in Ukraine to get back to normal as soon as possible. “However, the situation remains complicated,” he noted.
