Rybakov: Belarus-U.S. contacts are stable, regular

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Belarus-U.S. contacts have a stable character, Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov told journalists on 28 July, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that during his report to the head of state, the discussion mainly focused on the Belarusian-American agenda. “Our contacts with the American side are continuing and are very stable and regular,” Valentin Rybakov said. “Practically once a week or every ten days I have meetings with Mr. Coale [U.S. Special Envoy John Coale], the key negotiator from the American side, as well as with other representatives. The dialogue is very open, friendly, and substantive. We hope that in the foreseeable future we will see the results of this dialogue.”

According to Valentin Rybakov, these meetings include discussions on resolving issues in bilateral relations between Minsk and Washington. “Just a few days ago, the United States formulated another set of proposals addressed to us. The [Belarusian] president has reviewed this information and issued the relevant instructions to the structures responsible for implementing these proposals,” he stated.

Valentin Rybakov noted that in just a few days he plans to return to New York and meet with U.S. Special Envoy John Coale: “The president’s message will be delivered to him. We will wait for the results.”

He also did not rule out new visits by the U.S. special envoy to Belarus. “There may be talk of some further visits. I won’t be disclosing any specific details or dates at this time,” Valentin Rybakov concluded.
