MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko on 6 September, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.
“The Ukrainian head of state called Alexander Lukashenko to express his gratitude for the role Belarus and the Belarusian President played in the successful work of the Ukraine-Russia-OSCE contact group in Minsk. As Petro Poroshenko noted, the protocol signed on 5 September to cease fire in the east of Ukraine will stand as foundation for further movement towards a peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine,” the press service said.
The heads of state discussed the economic cooperation between the two countries and trade relations with the Customs Union.
The two Presidents also talked over the issue of Ukraine’s election to the non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.
