Nazarbayev: EEU Treaty will mark a new milestone of Eurasian integration

ASTANA, 29 May (BelTA) – The signing of the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty will mark a brand new stage in Eurasian integration, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on the level of the heads of state in Astana on 29 May, BelTA has learnt.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the session will shape the history of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia, because the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty will be signed there. “The treaty will mark a brand new stage in Eurasian integration. The treaty is balanced and well-done and takes into consideration the interests of all the member states,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

In his words, the treaty reflects all the basic elements common for international organizations. The document has formalized the principles of sovereign equality of the member states, territorial integrity and respect for the form of government of the member states. The principle of consensus will be used at all the stages of decision-making. Besides, the personnel policy in the EEU will be based on equal representation of the member states; senior officials of the union will be elected on a competitive basis. “The treaty is designed to improve the well-being and living standards of our people. I am convinced that the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union will become the best impetus for upgrading our economies and advancing our countries to the leading positions in the world,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
