MP: There are influential forces in Europe ready to work with Belarus

MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) – There are enough influential public and political forces in Europe that are ready to work with Belarus, Sergei Klishevich, a member of the Standing Commission on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives, told the media after the meeting with a delegation of the Portuguese Communist Party and Portuguese MPs, PCP members on 19 August, BelTA has learned.

“There are enough influential public and political forces in Europe that are ready to work with us, that take a sober view of the situation, objectively assess what is happening in the world, see Belarus in a positive light as a country that brings peace and good and is ready to work with everyone who wants this, including in Europe,” Sergei Klishevich said.

The MP stressed the importance of developing interparliamentary dialogue and maintaining regular contacts with MPs of the Portuguese parliament and the European Parliament, who support Belarus.

“They need such dialogue because the Belarusian issue is regularly raised there. It is important for them to have reliable, truthful information,” he said. “These people understand perfectly well what kind of information is being pumped into European society, information based on fakes, with the aim of scaring European society.”

“It is very important to maintain contacts in Europe with those who want to be friends. And there are many such people,” Sergei Klishevich said. According to him, these include influential and respected forces, among them the Portuguese Communist Party, which has members both in the Portuguese parliament and in the European Parliament.

Sergei Klishevich noted that members of the PCP support Belarus by systematically voting against anti-Belarusian resolutions.

Speaking about the guests’ program in Belarus, he said that the delegation will visit Minsk Tractor Works, where they will see the production process. They are set to tour the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, to see sights in Minsk and to meet with the leadership of the Communist Party of Belarus and other representatives of the civil society.

“It is important for guests to learn about the specifics of our country’s development and exchange information. The main objective of this visit is to share information on current issues on the global agenda and, of course, to get to know Belarus better,” Sergei Klishevich said.

According to him, this will allow the Portuguese delegation to gain a deeper understanding of the Belarusian agenda and will help strengthen ties between the parties, countries and peoples. “Parliamentary diplomacy is an important part of people-to-people diplomacy that we engage in,” he concluded.
