Mezentsev: Belarus' election results show people's support for Lukashenko's course

MOSCOW, 27 January (BelTA) – People  voted for Aleksandr Lukashenko in the recent presidential election because they believe that the country is going in the right direction, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Dmitry Mezentsev told journalists, BelTA reports.

“The resounding victory of Aleksandr Lukashenko in the presidential election, such massive support he received from the Belarusian people confirms that the course pursued by Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko over the years of his presidency is just and efficient, it helped cement Belarus' status as a dynamically developing welfare state,” Dmitry Mezentsev said.

“The Belarusian society is united, the election has once again confirmed this. People respect their history, the feat of the Soviet people who won the Great Patriotic War. This is an example to follow for many European countries,” he noted.

The state secretary is confident that the integration policy implemented by the two countries is the result of the high level of relations between the leaders of Belarus and Russia. “It is noteworthy that Aleksandr Lukashenko promised to make his first foreign visit to Moscow,” Dmitry Mezentsev emphasized.

“I have no doubts that Aleksandr Lukashenko's next tenure will be a period of stronger Belarus-Russia cooperation,” the state secretary added.
