Lukashenko urges SCO to widen its international outreach

BISHKEK, 1 September (BelTA) - The SCO needs to expand ties with various international associations, such as the EAEU, the CIS, the CSTO, BRICS, and others, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council in Bishkek on 1 September, BelTA has learned.

The head of state emphasized that progress in such areas of the SCO’s work as security, economy, and the humanitarian dimension will help strengthen the monolithic unity of the member states and their cohesion and enhance the organization’s authority and collective voice on the international stage.

“The partner status enshrined in the SCO Charter demonstrates that we are not advocates of closed alliances and are ready to interact with everyone in the ‘Shanghai spirit’. The SCO needs to expand ties with other associations, such as the EAEU, the CIS, the CSTO, ASEAN, the African Union, and, of course, BRICS,” Aleksander Lukashenko stated.

“Staying true to the idea of the integration of integrations, we believe that the alignment of various cooperation formats will help enhance the role of the Shanghai organization as a global player,” he emphasized.

The president expressed deep gratitude to Kyrgyzstan for its warmth and hospitality, the high level of organization of the meeting, and the effective coordination of work during Bishkek’s chairmanship.
