Lukashenko: I am no thief and am definitely not going to steal in the 32nd year of the presidency

BARANOVICHI DISTRICT, 11 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has made a few comments about rumors concerning his personal commercial interests or interests of members of his family in front of reporters, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Some already write that my interests [lie within various fields], that my family is in commercials. Don’t even think about it. I have not taken away anything from anyone.”

The Belarusian leader remarked that everyone in his family takes care of a specific task. For instance, the youngest son Nikolai is now a lieutenant, who serves in the army as part of one of the most complicated units. But at the same time he continues studying the biotechnologies that he had studied in university.

“Everyone does a specific thing. No one has stolen anything,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

He also pointed out that members of his family primarily mind state interests when taking care of various business matters. “I say: well, you are children of the president, it is unavoidable. When I am no longer the president, then you will work more freely like businessmen. But not now,” the president explained his hardline stance on the matter.

“This is why don’t worry about it. Don’t you worry about me. I have not been stealing for 30 years. I am definitely not going to steal in the 31st or 32nd year [of the presidency],” the Belarusian leader stressed.
