LEPEL DISTRICT, 31 October (BelTA) – Belarus will not become involved in any war unless it is the target of external aggression, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he was talking to local residents during a visit to the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve, BelTA has learned.

“The demand [for what Belarus has and produces] exists. But we are living through such uncertain times that we must persevere. We must endure this period. If we succeed, our children will survive. If we fail, we will plunge into the abyss. There are more than 50 conflicts and wars going on in the world. I would not want us to become involved in the 51st. I assure you, we do not want to fight, and we will not enter any war if we are not provoked. This is the paramount task of the president and the government,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that some neighboring countries currently spend up to 5% of their GDP on military needs, which is very much. The question is, why are they doing it? In this context, the head of state remarked that no one would be able to annex western Belarus or Ukraine like it was in the past. “That will not happen,” he emphasized.

“If your soldiers set foot on our soil without permission, we’ll fight back,” the Belarusian leader warned.
