Laureates share emotions after receiving president’s special award
VITEBSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Laureates of the Belarusian President’s Through Art to Peace and Understanding special award, composers Aleksandr Zatsepin and Leonid Zakhlevny, shared their emotions after receiving the prestigious honor at the opening ceremony of the 35th edition of the International Arts Festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk on 16 July, BelTA has learned.
People’s Artist of Belarus Leonid Zakhlevny, who wrote the anthem of the International Arts Festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, described the award as a great source of pride. “For me, as a composer, receiving such a high award from the hands of our president on this festive day is a great responsibility. I will continue to write with inspiration, sincerity and from the bottom of my heart for the benefit of our beloved Belarus,” he said.
Russian composer Aleksandr Zatsepin, who celebrated his 100th birthday this year, recalled that he first learned about Belarus in early childhood thanks to his mother. “When I was only three years old, my mother used to sing Belarusian folk song Why shouldn’t I sing, why shouldn’t I rejoice if my house is in order? I often remember that song and still hum it. Aleksandr Grigoryevich, thank you very much. I have truly enjoyed being here and am grateful that you have not forgotten me,” said the composer, whose music features in many famous Soviet films.
Earlier in the day, two commemorative plaques honoring the composers, who have made a significant contribution to the musical arts of Belarus and Russia, were unveiled at the Walk of Fame near the Summer Amphitheater in Vitebsk on 16 July.
