Krutoi: Every Belarusian family keeps memory of their heroes

BREST, 22 June (BelTA) - Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi is in Brest for the events dedicated to the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, BelTA learned.

Dmitry Krutoi stressed that the Brest Fortress is a sacred place for the Belarusian people. So is the date of 22 June. During the Great Patriotic War, Belarus lost every third person. Even through generations, the memory of them is alive.

“Young people do not feel these events so acutely because there are no living witnesses. Belarus has only 800 living veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Every Belarusian family keeps the memory of its heroes. We mark all events dedicated to the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War in a special way,” the head of the President Administration said.

According to him, on the instruction of the head of state, a large-scale concept for the reconstruction of the Brest Fortress will be drawn up. “This will require both time and a lot of resources. This place is in an exemplary state but we want to give it a new perspective taking into account latest technological advancements. Because recent events, including the 80th anniversary of the Victory, have shown that young people now need modern forms of information, including historical information, more interactive things.”

Representatives of Belarus together with colleagues from Russia are studying the innovations that will help museum visitors soak in the spirit of the era and get immersed in the heroic events in the citadel over the Bug River. “This year, our fortress celebrates the 60th anniversary since it was awarded the Hero title, being in fact the only such place in the world. It carries a special responsibility for us, for Belarusians. We must preserve and perpetuate the memory of the feat that was accomplished here,” the head of the President Administration said.
