Khrenin: No signs of aggression against Belarus, situation remains calm

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – The regional security in Belarus remains stable, with no signs of aggression, Belarusian Minister of Defense Viktor Khrenin said following his report to the head of state on 22 July, BelTA has learned.

The report to the president covered military training exercises in the Armed Forces, the current security situation at the borders, and assistance provided by military personnel to farmers during the harvest season. Viktor Khrenin described the military-political situation facing Belarus as stable, noting that tensions are mostly confined to rhetoric.

“Monitoring the actions of NATO armed forces, we do not see much activity. There is a minimal number of exercises taking place in neighboring countries – just one – and a minimal number of flights. That is why we consider it [the situation facing Belarus] to be stable, and we do not see any threat, tension, or preparation for a surprise attack,” he said.

As for the southern borders of Belarus, Viktor Khrenin stated that there are no signs of preparation for aggressive actions by Ukrainian forces. “To date, we do not see any preparation for aggressive or active actions coming from the Ukrainian forces that are covering their border. Despite everything being said in the media, they do not need tension on our border,” he believes.

“Of course, we are not letting our guard down. As the president emphasized yesterday, there is a minimal deployment of Special Operations Forces units on the [southern] border today. In cooperation with border guards, they ensure security in the border zone,” the minister said. “Most importantly, we must be ready for any surprise actions, which is why we are keeping this minimal force presence there.”

Personnel training is being conducted as planned, taking into account the analysis and conclusions drawn from the comprehensive inspection held earlier this year.
