Key sectors for Belarus-Ghana cooperation in education outlined

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) - Belarus is keen on increasing the export of educational services to Ghana, and the potential in this area for the two countries is great, Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets told BelTA.

The minister noted that Ghana is among the top five markets in Africa for the export of educational services. “Yet, in terms of building a legal framework, we are still at the beginning of the journey,” he said. “We very much hope that, in the wake of the visit of the Ghana president we will subsequently be able to conclude a memorandum of understanding in education between the relevant ministries. And all of this will give a very good impetus to inter-university agreements so that our universities can establish direct ties. The potential and prospects are great.”

Ghana is primarily interested in training specialists in the agricultural industry, medicine, and engineering personnel at Belarusian universities.

“But we believe that an important aspect will be the training of teaching staff, future teachers, because Ghana has adopted a corresponding education development program for 2018-2030, which aims to bring education to a fundamentally new level. First and foremost, school education,” the minister said.

According to him, the formation of an appropriate regulatory and legal framework between government bodies will subsequently allow for a transition to direct cooperation between higher education institutions and exchange programs.
