FM outlines advantages of Belarus’ engagement with BRICS

NEW DELHI, 12 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov outlined what makes cooperation with BRICS attractive to the country, BelTA has learned.

“We are participating in the BRICS summit as a partner state. We take pride in this status as it brings us closer to the key countries of the Global Majority, which are playing an ever-greater role in shaping global politics and economy. Keeping a finger on the pulse of this globalized world and defining Belarus’ role in it is crucial for us. Thanks to India’s very substantive chairmanship, we have been able to engage in almost every area of BRICS activities, including healthcare, education, culture, transport, logistics, public associations, and organizations. This has not only boosted our international profile but has also helped us foster excellent bilateral ties with BRICS member states,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.

The foreign minister pointed out that Belarus fully shares all the goals and objectives of the organization. “Currently, we are focusing on the development of trade and economic cooperation. We have submitted our application and expect it to be reviewed and for a positive decision to be made in the near future regarding our participation in the BRICS New Development Bank. We believe this will be a good opportunity for the implementation of investment projects in our country,” he emphasized.

New Delhi is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit on 12-13 September. The Indian capital welcomes 26 delegations from around the world, including BRICS partner nations and international organizations. The central theme of India’s current chairmanship is Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.
