MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – During the presidential election, the Belarusian people made an informed choice in favor of stronger sovereignty and independence, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA reports.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Belarus' presidential election even before it was held. Moreover, attempts were made to interfere with the electoral sovereignty of the country. According to the available official data, 639 ballots are believed to have been taken out of polling stations.

“This figure - just over 600 ballots – is nothing taking into account that there were 5,325 polling stations. I even joked about it saying that some were trained so hard in the West to take ballots out of polling stations that they could not even take a ballot out of each polling station. Therefore, I believe it is not worth dwelling on,” the CEC head noted.

“Looking at the overall outcomes of the election campaign, we can say that the Belarusian people made their conscious choice in favor of strengthening the sovereignty, independence and progressive and peaceful development of our country,” Igor Karpenko stated.
