Belaya Rus party leader stresses importance of teaching children history, value of peace
MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Belaya Rus political party, Olga Chemodanova met with students and teachers of the Ryasno special boarding school on the National Briefing Day. The meeting was dedicated to the People’s Unity Day, Belarus’ most important state holiday, on 10 September, BelTA has learned.
The meeting focused on the history of Belarus, the importance of work, the value of peace and family, the role of People’s Unity Day in preserving historical memory and strengthening society. Olga Chemodanova stressed the importance of citizens’ participation in commemorative and festive events. According to her, it is important to introduce children to the history of their country not only through books and stories, but also by visiting places associated with tragic chapters of the past.
She urged families to visit the museum of the former Bereza Kartuska concentration camp in the town of Beryoza. “There, without words, simply through the visual experience of the exhibits, one can feel the horror that the Belarusian people went through,” Olga Chemodanova said.
According to Boarding School Director Viktor Patsankov, who has headed the institution since 2008, he has had an opportunity to communicate with a large number of young people over the years, and today it is particularly important to talk to the younger generation about the country’s history and the values of unity.
The institution regularly holds lessons and awareness raising events devoted to socially significant and historical topics. At the end of the meeting, Olga Chemodanova presented the boarding school with a TV set and personal hygiene products.
The Ryasno special boarding school has 115 students with intellectual disabilities. They include 18 children with disabilities, 10 orphans, and children left without parental care, six pupils in the preschool group. Since 2010, the institution has operated classes offering advanced social and vocational training.
