Belarus’ FM: European security model has failed
MINSK, 24 July (BelTA) – The European security model has failed, and Europe itself is becoming a source of conflicts and confrontation, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov said at a meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, on 24 July, BelTA has learned.
Maxim Ryzhenkov noted that over its 25-year history, the SCO has evolved from a mechanism for building confidence in border areas into a pillar of multipolarity and an influential regional organization.
He stated that the European security model had failed and that Europe itself was becoming a source of conflicts and confrontation. “Against this backdrop, the SCO countries have no alternative but to build their own self-sufficient model of development and security in Eurasia,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.
Belarus, for its part, is promoting the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century as one of the key mechanisms for shaping a new Eurasian security system. Official negotiations on drafting the charter are expected to begin during the high-level week of the 81st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Minsk is set to host another round of consultations on the initiative in November 2026.
