Belarus calls for long-term investments for sustainable development

MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) - Belarus advocates for long-term investments in the interests of sustainable and inclusive development, Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Larisa Belskaya said at the 16th session of the UNCTAD Investment, Enterprise and Development Commission, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Permanent Mission in Geneva.

“Belarus advocates for long-term and mutually beneficial investments in the interests of sustainable and inclusive development, industrial cooperation, technological renewal, and export expansion. The country offers investors its advantages such as well-developed infrastructure, industrial and scientific base, and skilled personnel while highlighting priority areas: high technologies, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, logistics, agriculture, and tourism," the Belarusian diplomat emphasized.

At the same time, Belarus expressed concern over unilateral coercive measures and sanctions, which destabilize the investment environment, increase uncertainty, and hinder the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Belarus calls for refraining from the use of such measures and supports their objective monitoring with the participation of UNCTAD.

“Belarus expresses the hope that the work of the 16th session of the UNCTAD Investment, Enterprise and Development Commission and the World Investment Forum in Doha will contribute to the development of practical solutions and the strengthening of mutually beneficial international investment cooperation, while preserving space for national sustainable development policies,” Larisa Belskaya noted.
