Analyst explains what makes Belarus’ development path unique

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) - What the Belarusian development path means was explained by military analyst Aleksandr Alesin in a recent episode of BelTA’s V Teme [On Point] project.

“People often talk about the American, Japanese, Scandinavian, and other development paths. But there is also a Belarusian path, which means that we preserved the potential created during the Soviet era and built on it,” Aleksandr Alesin said.

The expert noted that Belarus’ development strategy was based not on natural resources or transit potential, but on the knowledge, skills and expertise of Belarusian specialists, as well as the development of the education system, design bureaus, and engineering schools.

“This allowed us not to start from scratch by destroying what had been achieved before, but to move forward and overcome the crisis that emerged in the first years after the collapse of the Soviet Union,” he said.

Aleksandr Alesin noted that in the early 1990s it was often said that all the necessary goods could simply be purchased. Based on this logic, there was supposedly no need to focus on developing industry, agriculture and other sectors. Belarus chose a different path, demonstrating that such assumptions were wrong.

“Moreover, by preserving and developing our potential, we have been able to become a technology provider for countries of the Global South. Their former colonizers never shared their technological developments with them, so that these countries would not be able to rise from their knees,” Aleksandr Alesin said.

“Belarus, meanwhile, is ready to share cutting-edge technologies, provide professional training, and set up assembly facilities. These countries come to us because we cooperate with them on an equal footing,” he added.
