Analyst: Belarusians unite around the state over 32 years of presidency

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Over the period of the existence of the institution of the presidency, Belarusians have united around the state, analyst of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR) Yekaterina Rezanova told BelTA.
“Today Belarus marks a significant historical milestone: 32 years since the inauguration of the country’s first President Aleksandr Lukashenko. This period, which began in the challenging year of 1994 on the ruins of the Soviet era, became a time for Belarus to gain sovereignty, form a unique model of state development, and build a strong, independent state. The Belarusian model of a socially oriented market economy has proven its viability. The country has preserved and continues to develop free and accessible healthcare, high-quality education, and an adaptive system of social protection,” Yekaterina Rezanova noted.
To support her words, the analyst cited key achievements in various sectors. Most large enterprises have undergone extensive reconstruction and modernization over the past three decades. Industrial output has increased fourfold. The most large-scale event in the energy sector was the construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, which made it possible to replace more than 6.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. “On the eve of the collapse of the Soviet Union, about 1.07 million people worked in Belarusian agriculture; now the number is lower. But Belarus has begun producing almost twice as much grain, 1.8 times more milk, and 1.5 times more meat,” the expert emphasized.
Over three decades, the length of roads in Belarus has almost doubled. At the same time, the mileage of paved roads has increased 1.5 times. The capital is connected by high-speed roads with almost all regional centers.
Major progress has been achieved in maternal and child healthcare, cardiac surgery, traumatology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, oncology and oncohematology, and transplantology. “In terms of the number of transplants per 1 million population, Belarus ranks first among CIS countries. Colleagues from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, and Tajikistan adopt the experience of Belarusian doctors,” Yekaterina Rezanova noted.
Belarus has established itself as an independent and self-sufficient state. In the format of state governance, strong and fair authority is mentally closer to Belarusian citizens, Belarusians associate their main hopes for well-being and successful development of the country primarily with the head of state.
“During the existence of the institution of the presidency, Belarusians, first, have united around the state. Second, an understanding of the essence of the state system has formed, with a clear distribution of functions among branches of power. Third, the most effective channels of interaction along the ‘state-society’ line have emerged, including through modern technologies. Fourth, a special attitude has developed toward the state as a guarantor of justice and equal opportunities for all citizens: most Belarusians feel protected from loneliness and neglect, poverty, crime, informational and other threats,” the expert stated.
The 32 years of President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s leadership represent a historical path of creation and confident forward movement. “The main results of this path have been peaceful skies over our country, sovereignty, economic stability, and the firm confidence of citizens in the future. Building on the achievements reached, the Belarusian people continue to build a strong and prosperous Belarus for future generations,” Yekaterina Rezanova summarized.
