Algerian FM lauds results, pace of cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) - The results and pace of cooperation between Algeria and Belarus are truly impressive, Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf told the press following his meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 6 august, BelTA has learned.

He particularly emphasized the implementation of the agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries during the Belarusian head of state’s visit to Algeria in December 2025. “All instruments of bilateral cooperation have been set in motion following the visit. Furthermore, a new legal framework has been established, allowing us to move forward in developing our cooperation, and priorities for bilateral cooperation have been identified,” the Algerian foreign minister said.

According to him, joint work between the two countries is underway across 43 areas of cooperation. “I can say that we have already achieved tangible results on half of them. These results and the momentum set by the presidents are impressive,” Ahmed Attaf emphasized.

He assured that both parties already have a clear vision and plans to continue their joint efforts. the intergovernmental commission on cooperation is expected to meet by the end of this year. A number of high-level visits are scheduled “to continue the partnership for the benefit of the peoples of our two friendly countries,” the Algerian foreign minister said. “I believe we can achieve even greater results,” he added.

Cooperation between Belarus and Algeria has recently been actively developing across various sectors. This was largely facilitated by the Belarusian head of state’s visit to Algeria in December 2025, during which a Belarusian-Algerian business forum was also held. The results of this work were not long in coming. In 2025 mutual trade stood at around $40 million. In just the first half of 2026 it already hit nearly $76 million. The entire volume of trade (with a negligible exception amounting to a few thousand dollars) consists of Belarusian exports, primarily milk, condensed and dried cream, and soybean oil.
