Aleinik: Institution of presidency allowed Belarus to forge its own path

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) - The establishment of the institution of presidency allowed Belarus to forge its own unique path, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Aleinik told BelTA.

“I had the privilege of being an eyewitness and participant in one of the most significant events - the first inauguration of the president of our country, which took place on 20 July 1994. At the time, I was working in the State Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which, together with other agencies, was tasked with the organizational support of the ceremony,” Sergei Aleinik said.

He emphasized that the establishment of the institution of presidency allowed the young country to forge its own unique path. At its foundation lies an independent and peaceful foreign policy, built on open, constructive engagement with the rest of the world.

“Decades have shown that the people's choice of president was pivotal to Belarus’ independence, security, and socially focused economy. The combined efforts of all branches of government have allowed us to confidently pursue this constructive course, building relations with the outside world on the principles of equal, mutually respectful dialogue and cooperation,” Sergei Aleinik concluded.
