‘Act of political censorship’. Russian MFA on YouTube takedown of Belarusian media

 MOSCOW, 8 April (BelTA) - The blocking of the BelTA, ONT, and STV channels on YouTube is an act of diversion and political censorship, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told BelTA.

“What the video-hosting platform you mentioned [YouTube] did to the leading Belarusian media, when it literally erased with a single click a familiar source of information for millions of people, along with many years of archival recordings, is something that, in my view, can and should be called a vile act of information sabotage, an act of aggressive political censorship. And the list could go on. This is barbarism, 21st-century barbarism, which they try to justify with vague, inexplicable pretexts, referring to some illegitimate sanctions or even to combating so-called unreliable content. Maybe they should start with themselves then. Every day, the content produced by the very same government bodies of Western countries changes to the opposite. And yet, for some reason, they don’t edit themselves. But they should. Let them start with themselves.,” she said.
