VITEBSK, 17 July (BelTA) - The gala concert at the Vitebsk Concert Hall marked the announcement of the Grand Prix and top three prize winners of the 24th International Junior Song Contest Vitebsk, BelTA has learned.

The Grand Prix was awarded to Belarusian contestant Yelizaveta Tsuprik, who earned the maximum number of points over the two competition days. The first prize went to Romania’s Lucia Baicu, the second prize was shared by Jasmina Tuzelova from Kazakhstan and Kira Abramov from Israel, and the third prize went to Russia’s Valeria Shevchenko and Bulgaria’s Elitsa Malakova.

“Each of you is blessed with talent. For you, this competition is simply an opportunity to become more experienced, stronger, and to push beyond your limits. You will receive many more awards in the future,” said jury chair Ilona Bronevitskaya, Honored Artist of Russia, who also wished the young contestants the same magnificent applause that Vitebsk audiences are known for.

“I didn’t expect to take first place. I am grateful to everyone who stood behind my victory. I really enjoyed the Slavianski Bazaar, and I’m sure I will hold the memories of it in my heart for a long time,” shared Lucia Baicu.

The International Festival of Arts Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk is held with the support of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, whose special prizes were awarded to Yelizaveta Tsuprik from Belarus and Valeria Shevchenko from Russia. Mikhail Mironchik, Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Assembly’s Commission on Science and Education and a member of the House of Representatives’ Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science, noted that the competition is a unique platform, above all, for friendship between children and between nations, a place where children’s diplomacy is born.

Igor Petrishenko, CIS First Deputy Secretary General, presented a special prize for courage to the youngest participant from the CIS. For the second year in a row, this honor went to a performer from Armenia. This year, the Crystal Note was awarded to Aleksa Vardanyan. “If such synergy exists, then our culture has a bright and kind future,” Igor Petrishenko said of the participants.

A special prize from jury member - composer, musician, and producer Gaitis Lazdans - was awarded to Zhasmina Tuzelova from Kazakhstan.

In 2022, a new special prize was established for participants of the International Junior Song Contest, awarded for the best interpretation of a national theme and high performance mastery, named after the legendary Soviet and Belarusian composer, music professor, educator, People’s Artist of Belarus and People’s Artist of the USSR Igor Luchenok. This year, the award was presented to Gao Zidu from China by Victoria Aleshko, Honored Artist of Belarus, singer, and recipient of a special diploma from the Union State Standing Committee for creative embodiment of the ideals of friendship between the peoples of Belarus and Russia.
