MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Iryna Shymanovich advanced to the second round of the WTA 250 tournament in Memphis, USA, with a prize pool of $283,000, BelTA has learned.
Iryna Shymanovich (No. 205) defeated American Reese Brantmeier (No. 486) in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in her opening-round match, which lasted 1 hour 48 minutes.
In the round of 16, the Belarusian will face Katie Volynets of the USA (No. 93), who defeated Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic (No. 51) 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Iryna Shymanovich secured her place in the main draw by beating Ankita Raina (No. 649) of India 6-2, 6-0 in the qualifying competition. In the doubles event, Iryna Shymanovich and Slovenia’s Nika Radisic will face the British-Spanish duo of Sofia Johnson and Maria Garcia.
At the ATP Challenger 50 tournament in Samsun, Türkiye, with a prize fund of $63,000, Belarusian Sergey Betov failed to qualify for the main draw after losing to Digvijay Singh of India 4-6, 3-6. In the opening round of the doubles event, Sergey Betov and Karan Singh of India will face Koray Kirci and Ergi Kirkin of Türkiye.
The tournaments in the United States and Türkiye will conclude on 2 August.
