Sasnovich progresses to Abu Dhabi Open second round

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – World number 109 Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus has advanced to the second round of the $1.2 million Abu Dhabi Open, BelTA has learned.

In the round of Last 32, the Belarusian defeated Spain’s world number 65 Paula Badosa in a two-hour, three-set match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. In the match for a spot in the quarterfinals, Sasnovich’s opponent will be either Alexandra Eala of Philippines (World No.45) or Türkiye’s world number 79 Zeynep Sönmez.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich began her campaign in the qualifying. She defeated Australia’s Priscilla Hon, 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 but lost to the UK’s Sonay Kartal, 2-6, 4:6. However, despite the defeat, the Belarusian was granted a wild card into the main draw by the tournament organizers.

The tournament in the UAE capital will be over on 7 February.
