MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No. 114) has advanced to the main draw of the 2026 Brisbane International in Australia, which is a WTA 500 tournament with a prize pool of $1.2 million, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian secured her place in the main draw by defeating Uzbekistan’s Maria Timofeeva (No. 141) in a three-set second-round qualifying match that lasted two hours, with a final score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. This victory followed her convincing first-round win the previous day, where she defeated Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova (No.131) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
The main stage of the Brisbane International will run from 4 to 11 January. The tournament was won last year by world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus who defeated Russian player Polina Kudermetova in the final.
