Sabalenka to face Swiatek in Rome final

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka clinched a spot in the Italian Open final with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over world number 15 Danielle Collins of the United States, BelTA has learned.

In the quarterfinal Danielle Collins defeated Belarus’ world number 24 Victoria Azarenka, 6-4, 6-3.

On 18 May the Italian Open final will feature Aryna Sabalenka and world number one Iga Swiatek of Poland, as it was the case in Madrid two weeks ago. In the Spanish capital Iga Swiatek beat Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set thriller. The Italian Open winner will earn 1,000 points and €699,600.

On her way to the final Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ukraine’s world number 33 Dayana Yastremska, 6-4, 6-2, Ukraine’s world number 19 Elina Svitolina, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7), and secured an almost routine win, 6-2, 6-4, over Latvia’s world number 10 Jelena Ostapenko.

The men’s semifinals will feature world number 32 Alejandro Tabilo of Chile and world number 5 Alexander Zverev of Germany, and world number 24 Nicolas Jarry of Chile and world number 16 Tommy Paul of the United States. The final is scheduled for 19 May.
