Sabalenka retains top spot in WTA rankings

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) - Following her advancement to the Australian Open final, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus continues to lead the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, BelTA has learned.

The world’s number one player retains 10,990 points in her tally, while the Australian Open champion, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, has risen two places to now occupy the third position. Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich has dropped four places and is currently ranked 109th. Victoria Azarenka now holds the 149th position, and Iryna Shymanovich is ranked 158th.

The top 10 of the updated WTA rankings are as follows:

1. Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) – 10,990 points
2. Iga Świątek (Poland) – 7,978
3. Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) – 7,610
4. Amanda Anisimova (USA) – 6,680
5. Coco Gauff (USA) – 6,423
6. Jessica Pegula (USA) – 6,103
7. Mirra Andreeva (Russia) – 4,731
8. Jasmine Paolini (Italy) – 4,267
9. Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) – 3,342
10. Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) – 3,205.

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings are led by the newly-crowned Australian Open champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. Italian Jannik Sinner holds the second position, and Australian Open finalist Novak Djokovic of Serbia is third. Belarus’s top-ranked player Erik Arutiunian, occupies the 433rd place.
