MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) -Belarusian athlete Raman Turavinau won a gold medal at the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships in Munich, Germany, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian was chosen to compete in -80kg and started in the second round, where he defeated Bulgaria’s Seyed Hosseini. In the quarter finals, Raman Turavinau was stronger than Spain’s Juan Antonio Canovas, and then beat Croatia’s Leon Hrgota, coming back six points in the decisive round.
Raman Turavinau’s opponent in the final was Ukraine’s Kyrylo Hurnov. The fight ended in a two round victory for the Belarusian, 7-6, 10-8. Earlier, Raman Turavinau became a medalist at international tournaments in the UAE and Türkiye, and in 2025 he won bronze at the Youth World Championships.
On 12 May, Belarus’ Georgii Gurtsiev also won gold in the -58kg category, Artsiom Plonis took bronze in the over 87kg category. Three Belarusian athletes will compete at the European Championships in Germany on 13 May, and four more athletes from Belarus will fight on 14 May.
