MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – Head of the Information Support Department at the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve Aleksei Kazakov revealed the number of tourists who have visited the reserve since the beginning of the year in a new episode of BelTA’s project The Nation Speaks.
Aleksei Kazakov emphasized that visiting the reserve does not imply a large volume of tourists. “After all, this is a complex territory with a specific legal regime. Therefore, certain obligations are imposed to limit the number of people who can visit it. For instance, in 2025, we welcomed 231 groups, totaling over 3,100 visitors,” he noted. “This year, we are ahead of that pace. As of the end of August, we have hosted 191 groups, bringing the total number to over 1,900 visitors so far.”

The vast majority are citizens of Belarus, while 30% are foreign nationals. “Among the foreigners, the Russian Federation comes first, followed by citizens of China. It should also be understood that these are mostly Chinese students studying in Belarus, who visit our territory as part of a weekend tour,” Aleksei Kazakov said.
Furthermore, the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve saw a highly active April, driven by the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. “We were visited by a very large number of journalists, including various TV channels, radio stations, and publications not only from Belarus but also from the Russian Federation. There were also many excursionists from various organizations. Trade union committees organized groups to bring their employees. There was a huge influx of such groups all at once in April,” the head of the reserve’s Information Support Department concluded.
