New sculpture appears in Vitebsk to mark 35th Slavianski Bazaar

New sculpture appears in Vitebsk to mark 35th Slavianski Bazaar

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – A ceremony to unveil a miniature sculpture, a little figure with a wreath of cornflowers on its head and a microphone in its hands, took place in Vitebsk on 27 June. The artwork is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the International Festival of Arts Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, BelTA has learned.

The event was held as part of the celebration of an important date for Vitebsk: the 1052nd anniversary of the city’s founding. The sculpture was cast in bronze at the Minsk enterprise Eksklyuzivlit specifically for the occasion. The tiny figure, only about 35 cm tall, has taken up residence at the entrance to the Vitebsk Cultural Center, where the festival’s directorate is located. This is not the first such art object in the city. Similar mini-sculptures featuring the symbolic cornflower have already appeared in various corners of Vitebsk: The Lovers, The Photographer, The Artist, The Keeper of History, The Traveler, and others.

“Our mini-sculptures are gaining popularity; they already have many admirers. It would probably be unfair if Vitebsk, the city that has hosted the Slavianski Bazaar for 35 years, did not have a sculpture dedicated to a singer or musician. That’s why this seventh sculpture appeared. I’ll lift the curtain a bit and say that more ideas are in development, so this one definitely won’t be the last,” said Viktor Glushin, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee.

Director General of the Vitebsk Cultural Center Gleb Lapitsky added that 3D-printed copies of the new sculpture will be produced in three different sizes, including full-height. They will become unique gifts for festival participants and guests.
