MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – About 2,600 students from Africa are already studying at Belarusian universities, Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets told journalists following the president’s meeting to discuss the development of cooperation with African countries, BelTA has learned.
"The export of educational services is a very important area of activity for the Education Ministry. Naturally, we are interested in cooperation with all countries. Today, the African continent is one of the most dynamically developing regions. Around 2,600 African students are currently studying at our universities. We have set ourselves quite ambitious goals: to attract many more students from Africa," the minister stated.
Andrei Ivanets explained that Belarusian universities are primarily focused on training specialists in areas directly relevant to the country’s cooperation with African states. This includes education in advanced technologies, the preparation of engineering personnel, and the training of professionals in agriculture and medicine.
According to the minister, the next step to give greater momentum to educational cooperation is the conclusion of bilateral agreements at the university level. This will allow not only attracting foreign students through individual applications, but also establishing systematic work in this area.

In cooperation with Zimbabwe, Belarus has gone a step further by organizing internships for teaching staff at its universities. "In this regard, we expect that professors who undergo internships at our universities on a regular basis will become effective promoters of our education on the continent," Andrei Ivanets said.
