Five medals for Belarus at World Sambo Cup in Kyrgyzstan

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes took part in the World Sambo Cup 2023 in Cholpon Ata, Kyrgyzstan, BelTA has learned.

Belarus secured two bronze medals on the second and final day of the competitions. Daniela Zhdan beat Myrzaiym Duishonbekova from Kyrgyzstan to place third in the women’s 65kg. Karyna Shut clinched the 80kg bronze defeating Russia’s Polina Iudina.

The Belarusian national team won a total of five medals (one silver and four bronzes) at the World Sambo Cup in Kyrgyzstan. Earlier, Uladzislau Sayapin collected silver in the men’s 79kg event, Ilya Lamivarotau took bronze in the same weight category. Siarhei Lesiak claimed bronze in the men’s 98kg.

Competing for sambo medals in Cholpon Ata were athletes from ten countries: Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, China, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The next sambo competitions are due to take place in Novi Sad, Serbia on 23-24 September.
