MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – The most popular medical services among foreigners in Belarus include dentistry, ophthalmology and plastic surgery, Head of the Information and Communications Department at Medical Initiative Aleksandr Trus told a press conference, BelTA has learned.

“Medical tourism is a niche type of tourism and probably the most complex one. It cannot be standardized. Each patient who seeks help has a unique problem, and it is very important to take an individualized approach, to provide maximum attention and care. Medical tourism in Belarus is becoming increasingly popular every year,” noted Aleksandr Trus.

According to him, the most popular medical services among foreigners are medical treatment, diagnostics and aesthetic medicine.

Aleksandr Trus noted that a large number of foreign patients seek medical care in cardiology, cancer treatment, ophthalmology, classical dentistry, neurosurgery and surgery. “The drivers of medical tourism in terms of revenues are transplantology and hematology. Plastic and bariatric surgeries are popular too. Thus, the improvement of the healthcare system in our city and in our country helps bring more medical tourists to our country,” he noted.

The expert believes that in order to promote medical tourism in Minsk, it is necessary to include it in tourism programs. “For this purpose, healthcare facilities of Minsk are developing numerous standardized treatment programs, such as Women’s Health, comprehensive check-ups. In other words, these should be programs that anyone can undertake for relatively small money when coming on a visit, a business trip, or just on an excursion for 1-3 days,” said Aleksandr Trus.
