BREST, 15 July (BelTA) – A ceremony to consecrate and inaugurate the organ will be held at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the town of Pruzhany on 18 July, Yelena Kubarko, the head of the culture department of the Pruzhany District Executive Committee, told BelTA.
The instrument has a unique history. It was built in 1912 by a Dutch firm for the Reformed church in the town of Schouwerzijl, the Netherlands. After the church was closed in 1986, the organ underwent a major restoration, received a pedal register, and was sent to the Reformed church of Elim in Numansdorp, the Netherlands. In 2019, the congregation moved again, the building was closed, and the instrument was sent to a new location, to the town of Pruzhany, where it was installed in 2026.
As organizers of the Ars Magna Organi festival explained, the Romantic type organ is distinguished by its rich, full sound, which shows particularly effectively in the acoustics of the three nave church. The instrument has been seamlessly integrated into the small choir loft of the church. The previous organ in Pruzhany had similar dimensions and was also located at the rear of the choir loft. When installing the new instrument, specialists decided to preserve this placement. It ensures good acoustic effect and allows for a choir to be positioned nearby.
A concert featuring a professor from the United States will begin at 11:00. According to the organizers, after that, solo and ensemble concerts will be held in the church every week until 2 October. A total of 15 concerts are planned.
