MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) - There are still many mysteries, and much research is needed to answer the question of who this great princess really was, tour guide Sofia Macharashvili said in the latest episode of the V Teme. Nashi [On Point. The Nation’s Pride] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

Euphrosyne of Polotsk’s contribution to education and societal development is impressive by the standards of the 12th century. Her mission extended far beyond the monastery and the principality. “When we say Euphrosyne of Polotsk was a peacemaker, it’s true. She reconciled Minsk and Vitebsk, Kiev and Novgorod,” Sofia Macharashvili said.

The tour guide also emphasized that Euphrosyne of Polotsk was highly respected among her contemporaries: “People loved her very much, trusted her, and spoke with her.”

Blogger Kseniya Leshchinskaya added that church clergy had authority, “so she could quite possibly halt certain conflicts and persuade people to attend a service instead.”

According to Sofia Macharashvili, historical books contain information that Euphrosyne of Polotsk headed a male monastery. By the standards of that time, this can be considered a true revolution.

“There are many mysteries, and much more investigation is needed to answer the question of who this great princess really was,” Sofia Macharashvili said.
