Braslav Icon of Mother of God to be celebrated on 21-22 August

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – Celebrations in honor of the Mother of God of Braslav, also known as The Queen of Lakes, will take place on 21-22 August, BelTA learned from the web portal of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus.

The celebrations will be held in Braslav under the motto “To be with Mary is to praise God and build peace.”

Day one events feature a welcome gathering for pilgrims, Holy Mass, the Stations of the Cross, and a solemn procession carrying a replica of the Mother of God icon. The highlight of the celebrations will be a festive Mass on 22 August with the participation of the Apostolic Nuncio to Belarus, Archbishop Ignazio Ceffalia. On the same day, the faithful will be able to renew their marriage vows.

The icon of the Mother of God The Queen of Lakes is considered miraculous and is one of the most revered Catholic icons in Belarus. It is currently housed in the church in Braslav. In 2024, this church was designated as a minor basilica.
