Belarusian State University’s R&Ds top scientific competition in St Petersburg

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) - R&D projects by Belarusian State University (BSU) have been recognized as the best at a scientific competition in St Petersburg, Russia, BelTA learned from the university’s press service.

BSU’s developments received nine awards of various categories at the scientific competition for the Best Innovation Project and Best Scientific and Technological Development of the Year. The competition took place as part of the HI-TECH 2026 expo in St Petersburg on 14-16 April. BSU’s medal tally includes a special prize, four gold medals, three silver medals, and a diploma.

The special prize went to a technology for applying nickel-based functional coatings to components of high-tech devices for various purposes. A gold medal went to the functional food ingredient ‘Mayak’ and the meat semi-finished product Nuggets made from it, both of which support normal nervous system function. The next gold-winning project is a scientific and educational laboratory complex for synthesizing diamond-like films using microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition.

Another high award went to the software package huGSVcalleR for automatic detection and annotation of single nucleotide polymorphism sites in the human genome. Another gold medal was awarded to the SKAN calibration and guidance system.

Silver medals were awarded to the project to process sludge residue from sedimentation ponds of wastewater treatment plants.

A silver medal went to a scientific and educational complex for testing X-ray optics elements and studying the structure of objects using X-ray microscopy and tomography. Silver was awarded to the development of new anti-corrosion organic components and technology for their small-scale production.

In addition, a diploma was awarded to a software package for detecting and monitoring phytoplankton ‘blooms’ in water bodies using Earth remote sensing data.

In total, BSU submitted nine developments to the competition, and all received high praise.
