Belarus to launch black caviar factory tours in June

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) - In June Belarus will launch guided tours with tastings at a black caviar production facility, BelTA has learned from the Republican Union of Tourist Organizations (RUTO).

The enterprise is located in the town of Fanipol, 20km from Minsk. The facility sells its products domestically and also exports to Europe, the United States and Russia. Visitors will see the full cycle of sturgeon farming, observe the specifics of modern aquaculture and taste fresh black caviar straight on the spot.

Visitors will be able to observe sturgeon feeding, watch an ultrasound examination of a female sturgeon and examine roe under a microscope. In the future, visitors may also be able to purchase the delicacy.

The tours will be arranged for organized groups. Travel agencies have already begun preparations.

Black caviar comes from sturgeon, beluga, stellate sturgeon and bastard sturgeon. Today, it can legally be produced only under artificial conditions, as sturgeon species are on the verge of extinction in the wild. The leading countries in this market are Russia, China, France, the USA, Italy and Iran. Water for sturgeon farming must be crystal clear. The Fanipol facility operates a sophisticated system of pools with continuous filtration, ozonation and water quality control.

The Belarusian National Union of Tourism Organizations notes that travelers are allowed to take up to 250 grams of black sturgeon caviar out of Belarus. Any quantity exceeding this limit is considered a commercial consignment.
