MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Iryna Shymanovich has claimed her second victory in the qualifying competition for the 139th Wimbledon Championships, BelTA has learned.
In the second qualifying round, the Belarusian, currently ranked 216th in the world, defeated Belgium’s Greet Minnen (world No. 195) in an hour and a half, 6-4, 6-2. In her opening qualifying match, Iryna Shymanovich overcame Czech player Dominika Šalková (No. 128) in a three-set battle: 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4.
Later today, another Belarusian, Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No. 124), will face Australia’s Storm Hunter (No. 185). Yesterday, Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated Britain’s Katie Dunn (No. 575): 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. To reach the main draw, players must win three qualifying rounds.
The main draw matches of the season’s 3rd Grand Slam tournament will begin on 29 June. The women’s singles final is scheduled for 11 July, the men’s championship match is scheduled for 12 July. The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will feature a record total prize fund of £62.4 million. The men’s and women’s singles champions will each receive £3.6 million. Poland’s Iga Swiatek and Italy’s Jannik Sinner won the singles titles in 2025.
