MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ Tatsiana Klimovich and Alena Furman won gold at the 2026 European Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy, BelTA has learned.

The women’s double sculls final featured crews from Belarus, Switzerland, Lithuania, Germany, Greece, and the UK. After the first half of the race, Klimovich and Furman were in third place, but they picked up the pace on the second kilometer and ultimately crossed the finish line first. They beat the silver medalists from Greece, Dimitra Kontou and Evangelia Anastasiadou, by 1.32 seconds.

The Lithuanian duo of Martyna Kazlauskaite and Dovile Rimkute finished third, nearly two seconds behind. Furman has now become a five-time European champion (2018, 2021, 2024 - single sculls; 2019, 2026 - double sculls). Last year, Tatsiana Klimovich and Alena Furman won bronze in this event at the World Rowing Championships.

Tomorrow, Belarusian athletes will compete in three finals at the continental rowing championships: men’s single sculls (Yauheni Zalaty), women’s lightweight single sculls (Valeryia Shendzel), and men’s eight.
