MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Belarus ranked among the top three CIS countries in tourism development in 2025, CIS First Deputy Secretary General Igor Petrishenko said during the ceremony to open the 4th Belarus-Russia tourism congress and the international tourism forum Travel Hub Commonwealth in Minsk on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

According to Igor Petrishenko, international tourism grew by 4% in 2025. The CIS countries demonstrated even stronger momentum: their growth rates were two-three times higher than the global average.

“The leader in growth is domestic tourism. It is a real driver of economic development,” Igor Petrishenko noted. He added that the sector encompasses more than 50 types of economic activity. In the CIS countries, tourism is not only an industry of active leisure but also an important tool for economic and socio-cultural integration. “In 2025, Belarus ranked among the top three CIS countries in sustainable tourism development. Russia took first place, and Azerbaijan second.”

The forum emphasized that cooperation among CIS member states in the tourism sector is a significant factor in deepening intercultural exchange, improving living standards, and shaping a positive image of the participating countries.

Tourism serves as a reliable foundation for developing contacts, strengthening friendship, and fostering good-neighborly relations. The forum is aimed at positioning and promoting tourism products of CIS countries and addressing current challenges in the industry. Thanks to the efforts of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the forum has secured a prominent place in the calendar of tourism events across the Commonwealth and annually brings together leaders and professionals in the field.

The Big Tourism Week is taking place in Minsk these days. A series of key events for the hospitality industry are scheduled at several venues in the Belarusian capital through 11 April. The main events are the 4th Belarusian-Russian Tourism Congress, the international forum Travel Hub Commonwealth, and the 28th International Exhibition-Fair of Tourism Services Leisure 2026. The Big Tourism Week program also includes the specialized Expo HORECA Minsk exhibition, the Taste of Belarus project, and other events.
