Amber pendants, stone maces found during excavations in Lepel District

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) - Archaeologists have discovered ancient amber pendants and stone maces in Lepel District, BelTA learned from the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences.

A joint expedition of the Institute of History and the school archaeology and local history summer camp at Pshenko Secondary School in the agro-town of Sloboda is currently exploring the Neolithic-Bronze Age site of Bereshcha 1 (Dubovets trakt, Bereshcha archaeological micro-region) in Lepel District of Vitebsk Oblast. The team has uncovered numerous sherds of pottery, flint and bone artifacts, and an osteological collection. Notable finds include amber pendants and two stone maces, one complete, massive oval specimen and half of a round one.

The finds mostly date to the Usvyat archaeological culture, the culture of Middle Neolithic tribes that populated the Belarusian Poozerye region from the end of the 4th millennium to the middle of the 3rd millennium BC.
