MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) - Belarusian athlete Alina Shauchuk won silver at the 2026 European Wrestling Championships in Tirana, Albania, BelTA has learned.
20 year old Alina Shauchuk from Bobruisk won a medal in the under 68kg category. During the competition, Alina Shauchuk defeated opponents from Poland, Hungary and Romania. However, due to an injury, she withdrew from the final match against Nesrin Bas from Türkiye, winning the silver medal. In 2025, at the European Wrestling Championships in Slovakia, Alina Shauchuk won the gold medal. She is also the current European champion among juniors and youth wrestlers.
Marta Hetmanava came close to winning a medal in the under 59kg category. In the first round, she defeated Erika Bognar from Hungary, but lost to Ukrainian Mariia Vynnyk in the quarterfinals. In the bronze medal match, Marta Hetmanava lost to Hiunai Hurbanova from Azerbaijan, who had previously beaten her in the European U20 Wrestling Championships final in 2025.
Vanesa Kaladzinskaya will compete for bronze on 24 April in the under 53kg category. Aryna Dzemchanka will wrestle in the repechage round in the up to 57kg category. Veranika Ivanova (up to 62kg) and Viktoryia Radzkova (up to 72 kg) lost their quarterfinal matches.
On 24 April, freestyle wrestlers will begin their competition at the European Wrestling Championships in Albania. The Belarusian team will be represented by eight athletes.
