2017 Summer Deaflympics: Belarus wins two medals on day one

Oksana Petrushenko from GomelMINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – Belarusian swimmers claimed two medals on the first day of the 23rd Summer Deaflympics, BelTA learned from the press service of the Sports and Tourism Ministry.

Oksana Petrushenko from Gomel won the 50m Breaststroke event in 33.48 seconds. This is the 15th Deaflympic gold for the Belarusian.

In the 4x100 Medley Oksana Petrushenko, Maria Rudko, Yekaterina Yeremtsova and Anastasia Filipchik clinched silver, finishing behind Russia.

Taking part in this year’s Deaflympic Games are athletes from 100 countries. The sports offered at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics include 21 disciplines, among them are 16 individual sports and 5 team sports. The closing ceremony will be held on 30 July.

At the previous Deaflympics in Sofia in 2013 Belarusian athletes won 27 (12 gold, 11 silver, and four bronze) medals.
