19th-century revolver discovered during restoration of Sapieha Palace in Ruzhany

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) - A 19th-century revolver has been discovered during the restoration of a historical site in Ruzhany, BelTA learned from the State Committee for Forensic Examinations of Belarus.

Restoration work is underway on the Sapieha palace in the town of Ruzhany, Pruzhany District. There, construction workers uncovered a revolver inside a heating stove in one of the buildings.

A ballistic examination was requested to determine the model, type of weapon, and whether it was fit for firing.

An expert from the Brest Regional Department of the State Committee for Forensic Examinations established that the find was a 7.62-mm Nagant revolver M1895, which is a rifled firearm. Due to significant corrosion damage, it is unfit for firing. Experts also noted that weapons and ammunition are not infrequently discovered during restoration work on historical and cultural sites. Such finds are submitted for examination. More often than not, they are weapons dating back to the Great Patriotic War.
