MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) – A fragment of a 16th-century wooden wall of a fortified settlement was found in Korelichi District, the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) told BelTA.
“With the help of volunteers, research continues at the 16th-century Kmita Castle – the Berezovets fortified settlement near the town of Korelichi in Grodno Oblast. Previous excavations unearthed the gatehouse and a bridge leading to the castle. This year, for the first time, a fragment of a defensive wooden wall has been revealed, and the traces of burnt logs have been cleared,” the NASB Institute of History said.

Previously unknown structural features of the wall were studied. It consisted of two rows of vertically buried posts spaced 1.2 meters apart, with logs slotted horizontally into grooves between them.
